摘要：《苔丝》是使哈代达到创作巅峰的典型代表作，作者在书中将他的悲观主义观点表达的淋漓尽致，塑造了苔丝这样一位纯洁、善良但又命运悲惨的维多利亚时代的女性形象。初次品尝这部小说时，只觉有股奇怪的力量驱使我读完它，尽管对苔丝的美貌称赞不绝、对其纯洁羡慕不已、对其善良佩服万分，但最强烈的感情却是对她悲惨命运的哀叹不已。正因其完美地集传统美德于一身，才加重了她悲剧的分量。最近，又再次回味这部小说时，仍会催人泪下，不禁替苔丝的悲惨命运愤愤不平，为什么苔丝那么聪明美丽、勤劳善良，是可怜的受害者，最后却被送上了绞架呢？经过我的分析和研究，我总结出了最主要的两个原因，那就是她的贫困和性格弱点。本文将从这两个方面细致地剖析苔丝是如何一步步走向灭亡、被推向深渊，最终成为这个畸形社会的牺牲品，从而探究男权思维以及伦理道德对当时妇女们的影响。

Abstract: 《Tess of the D’Urbervilles》is a masterpiece of Thomas Hardy which helps him reach the highest peak of his writing history. The author portrayed intense pessimism in the novel incisively and vividly ,creating Tess ---an woman image of purity, kindness ,but with a miserable destiny,living in Victorian Age ,England.When I read this novel for the first time,I felt myself controlled by a strange strength,pushing me to finish it .Although I cannot help praising her beauty incessantly,admiring her purity greatly and respecting her kindness deeply,the strongest feeling is bemoaning bitterly towads her misfortune.Just because she incorporats so many traditional virtues into herself,her tragedy is highlighted.Recently,I began reading it again,also shed tears unconsciously and felt angry at God’s arrangement towards Tess.“Why such a clever,beautiful,diligent,kindhearted and poor casualty was sent to gallows at last?”By doing some researches and analysis,I make out two important causes,respectively poverty and weakness.This text will deal with how does Tess be destroyed gradually and finally become a sacrificial victim of this malformed society in above-mentioned two aspects,so that we can learn something about man-power civilization and the influences of moral values on women.
