If a primary symptom of IBS is constipation, gas, abdominal cramping, or bloating, essential oils of orange and marjoram may be beneficial because of their relaxing and stimulating properties. You can prepare a therapeutic bath by adding 6 to 10 drops of either oil alone or 4 or 5 drops of each in combination. Orange oil aids in the regulation of the bowels, and marjoram promotes elimination and improves digestion. Since orange oil may increase the risk of sunburn and marjoram may cause drowsiness, it is best to have a bath with these oils relatively close to bedtime.
