Italy has the most stringent regulations regarding the cultivation and vinification of grapes, meaning that wines may not contain any preservatives, colourings, additives or sugar. This makes Italian wines the purest in the world. The European Community regulated laws concerning wine production, but the criteria were considered too lenient by Italian wine growers. They therefore deemed it necessary to safeguard the quality and naturalness of their own wine by upholding the national laws which, although more strict, guarantee that the wine is completely genuine.
Since about 1965, approximately 90% of strawberry acres in California have been fumigated before each crop is planted. Statewide average strawberry yields tripled following the adoption of fumigation and now average about 50,000 lbs/acre (Figure 1). In addition, soil fumigation made available lands that had previously been avoided for strawberry cultivation. These were the rich, fertile, alluvial lands with long crop histories and fungal infestations. Generally, the increase in strawberry yield is credited to effective control of verticillium wilt with fumigation. |

(Genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration.)”是运用了数学中“百分比”的知识;我最喜欢的音乐家贝多芬的一句形容友谊的名言“Friendship is based on two people's heart and soul with the greatest similarity.

"There were ten birds in the tree. One hunter came and shot one dead. How many birds left in the tree?" Dad asked me.
"Nine." I said, and then added complacently: "Ten minus one is nine."
"Wrong, think it over carefully."
"I don't know..." muttered I after an instant of silence.
"One. Because all the other nine birds were scared by the harsh gunfire and flied away. There only leaves the dead one."
"Oh, I see." I thought about half a minute and continued:"Dad, I think your answer is not quite right. There probably has many birds left in the tree."
"Why?" Dad asked.
"The other birds have flied to fetch more bird friends to come and mourn for the dead bird!"
Heard my answer, Dad burst out laughing. So was I.
That was when Dad and I was taking a stroll outdoors after supper in a summer evening. At that time, I was in elementary school and Dad, who had learned economics and maths before, would often ask me some mathematic brainteasers. At the beginning, I would always refer to the knowledge in the maths textbook; however, after my father told me the answers I would usually acquire some inspiration and then bring out various answers which would make my father feel both funny and annoying. From then on, I began to be extremely interested in mathematics.
When I was in Junior High School, I began to learn about geometry and felt that maths was an imaginary discipline. Some of my classmates felt that maths was dull ad tedious. They could not understand or clearly remember what they have learned; they thought maths was kind of metaphysics and beyond our understanding. For me, geometry was just around us in our daily life. When I rode on a bike, I would think why the wheels should be round but not shaped like an egg. By learning geometry, I knew that's because round object could keep steady circling while elliptic object could not. When I told Dad my new discovery, he would praise me smart, thoughtful and analytic and, at the same time, told me that our life was full of maths knowledge and encouraged me to try to explore the wonderful unknown world.
Enlightened by my father, I started to pay close attention to maths in our daily life. Whenever my mother encourage me to make great efforts to do everything, she would usually quote Edison's words: Genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration, which is an application of the "percentage" in maths; the German famous musician Beethoven uses the following words to describe friendship: Friendship is based on two people's heart and soul with the greatest similarity, which uses the 'similarity' in maths; the tripod of the camera had used the stability of the geometric triangle object. All these mathematic knowledge in our life increasingly make me feel maths is miraculous. I often exchange ideas with my classmates and teachers and share my discoveries and thoughts with them as well. Their encouragement and praise also make me crazily love mathematics.
Upon my graduation from Senior High School, I would like to choose mathematics without hesitation as my future college major. I want to use the mathematic knowledge to solve problems in other fields, such as economics, physics, chemistry, and so on. I firmly believe that my exploring and pursuing spirit and my enthusiasm on maths shall strengthen my confidence in challenging and conquering any mathematic problem and help me realize my dream of enriching our life with mathematic knowledge.
